This blog intends to share my knowledge and experience to take photos of butterflies and insects.
I live in Colombia one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet, and that gives me the opportunity to find many species in different habitats. I hope this experience will be helpful to those who take pictures especially in tropical countries.
I am not an expert in photography or taxonomy of insects, but eventually you are able to learn some techniques to take pictures and also how to identify insects.
I've been taking butterfly photos regularly for 6 years and as February 2011 have 779 species with photo organized in a database that allows me to provide graphical reports of butterflies of any place for education and conservation purposes.
My main interests is in butterflies and try to identify all species of which I take photos, but I also take pictures of all the insects, spiders, frogs, lizards, or plants that look interesting.
Most of the photos loaded in this blog are unaltered with no special effects, only cropping and rotating is used.
All my photos are taken from live animals in their natural habitat, no capture or killing is used. My main interests is conservation and I think that one of the best ways of saving natural habitats is education trough making everybody aware of the species that lives in a place. It is amazing the lack of knowledge of the small creatures that is present in the persons that lives in some areas of enormous diversity.
I'll try to write all the blogs in English and Spanish and would appreciate any correction in the wording or spelling of the text.

Este blog tiene la intención de compartir mis conocimientos y la experiencia de tomar fotos de mariposas y de insectos.
Yo vivo en Colombia uno de los países con mayor biodiversidad en el planeta, y eso me da la oportunidad de encontrar gran cantidad de especies en hábitats diferentes. Espero que esta experiencia sea de utilidad a quien tome fotos especialmente en países tropicales.
No soy un experto en fotografía o taxonomía de insectos, pero con el tiempo se logra aprender algunas técnicas para tomar fotos y también para identificar algunos insectos.
He estado tomando fotos de mariposas con regularidad desde hace 6 años y a febrero de 2011 tengo 779 especies con foto organizadas en una base de datos en Access que me permite dar informes gráficos de las mariposas de cualquier lugar con fines de educación y conservación.
Mi interés principal está en mariposas y trato de identificar todas las especies a las cuales tomo fotos, pero también fotografío todos los insectos, arañas, ranas, lagartos, o plantas que veo interesantes.
Todas mis fotos son tomadas de animales vivos en su ambiente natural, no capturo o mato ningún espécimen.
Mi interés principal es la conservación y creo que uno de los mejores medios de proteger los hábitats naturales es a través de la educación, tratando que las personas sean conscientes de las especies que viven en un lugar. Es sorprendente la falta de conocimiento sobre las pequeñas criaturas que tienen las personas que viven en algunas zonas de gran diversidad.
Voy a tratar de escribir todos los blogs en inglés y español y agradecería cualquier corrección en la redacción o la ortografía del texto.
