I use this tip of taking a photo with and without flash in order to get the right color in some species, usually when you are in shaded places, like inside a jungle, you need to use the flash, but the flash changes the color and some details in the butterfly wings, so I try to take some photos without flash to get other details and colors, even though that obligates me to use a low f-stop number and a very slow speed that usually gives photos without good focus or blurred.
This is especially important in transparent butterflies like the ones in the subfamily ithomidae where taking with and without the flash will help in the process of identification.

Another condition where I use this technique is in bright sun light in order to get some details or to avoid some shades.
In another species like the ones with metal or iridescent colors the flash light brings the color depending of the angle in which the light hits the scales in the wing.

Yo uso esta práctica de tomar con y sin flash con el fin de obtener el color adecuado en algunas especies. Por lo general cuando se está en lugares con sombra, como dentro de una selva, es necesario utilizar el flash, pero la luz del flash cambia el color y algunos detalles en las alas de la mariposa, así que trato de tomar algunas fotos sin flash para obtener otros detalles y colores, a pesar de que me obliga a utilizar un número bajo de f-stop y una velocidad muy lenta que suele dar fotos sin foco o borrosas.
Esto es especialmente importante en las mariposas transparentes como las de la subfamilia ithomidae donde tomando con y sin el flash le ayudará en el proceso de identificación.
Otra condición en la que utilizo esta técnica es cuando la mariposa está expuesta a la luz del sol brillante a fin de obtener detalles o para evitar algunas sombras.
En otras especies, como los que tienen colores metálicos o iridiscentes, la luz del flash hace ver el color dependiendo del ángulo en el que la luz incide en las escamas en el ala.
